Our Work

Members of the FairCann partnership sign a high-level MOU expressing a shared commitment to working together for:

  • decent working conditions and the empowerment of micro-farmers and cannabis industry workers around the world;
  • truly sustainable business practices that enhance biodiversity and eliminate waste and pollution;
  • initiatives that create opportunities for communities traditionally excluded from industry ownership to co-own the companies their work creates products for;
  • a globally recognised set of cannabis industry production standards consistent with the above objectives;
  • the development of regulatory models and fair trade frameworks for cannabis/marijuana and hemp that address:
    • licensing and accreditation
    • intellectual property rights protection for breeders and traditional owners of landrace strains
    • restorative justice through cannabis tax allocation and clean slate mechanisms
    • community-led economic development structures and instruments
    • corporate social responsibility
    • environmental sustainability standards and metrics.

We have six priority areas for development:

  1. FAIR TRADE STANDARDS
  2. POLICY COHERENCE ON TECHNICAL & LEGAL FRAMEWORKS
  3. LICENCE ACCESS
  4. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
  5. REDISTRIBUTIVE PUBLIC POLICY
  6. ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY STANDARDS
